The story
The brand traces its origins to the business started by William Teacher in Glasgow in the early 1800s; the Teacher family registered the name 'Teacher's Highland Cream' in the 19th century. Over time the company built or acquired facilities to secure raw materials for the blend (including the Ardmore distillery, founded at the end of the 19th century) and went through several ownership phases before entering the Beam/Beam Suntory (now Suntory Global Spirits) group. The brand is distributed internationally.
Production philosophy
To focus on a blended whisky with a high proportion of peated malt to achieve a pronounced smoky aromatic profile, while maintaining accessibility and consistency through the careful selection and assembly of malts and grain whiskies.
Territory
Scotland (production and origin of the blend); historic commercial ties with Glasgow.
Production method
Blending numerous components (single malts and grain whiskies) to create the characteristic mixture; the reference single malt comes from the Ardmore distillery, which provides the peaty 'fingerprint' of the blend.
Ageing
Aging in oak casks; use of standard whisky barrels (including hogsheads and barrels) to develop colour and flavor.
