Assensi, sparkling wine produced by the Paternoster winery, is born in the evocative Calabrian region, a territory that vividly expresses the soul of Southern Italy. Made with expertly selected native grape varieties, this sparkling wine stands out for its vibrant freshness and balanced participation in the tasting experience. The secondary fermentation process in the autoclave gives this wine fine and persistent bubbles that elegantly tickle the palate.

On the nose, delicate aromas of white flowers and citrus open up, accompanied by subtle hints of green apple and bread crust, the result of careful aging. On the palate, Assensi offers a pleasant sapidity and balanced body, making it ideal for those seeking a balance between tradition and modernity. Perfect as an aperitif or paired with fresh and light fish dishes, it enhances every social moment with its natural freshness and the vibrant drive of its bubbles.

Paternoster – Winery in Basilicata

Discover the story and wines of Paternoster.

Historic winery in Barile (Basilicata) focused on the expression of Aglianico del Vulture; it also produces Falanghina-based wines and a sparkling wine in its own range.
Region: Basilicata
Country: Italia
Founded: 1925
Grapes: Aglianico, Falanghina
Historic Vulture winery with family roots and a century-long project. Strong focus on Aglianico del Vulture and parcel-by-parcel winemaking. Featured ranges: Don Anselmo, Synthesi, Bariliott, Vulcanico and Assensi. Part of the Tommasi Family Estates group since 2016, with investments in hospitality and a brand relaunch. Wines frequently highlighted by international critics with scores and awards.
Winery history
A historic winery of the Vulture region, established by the Paternoster family and active for generations. Founded in 1925 in Barile, it has become a benchmark for the promotion of Aglianico del Vulture: it retains strong family continuity in its management and, since 2016, has been part of the Tommasi Family Estates group, which has supported restoration projects and the expansion of the estate’s hospitality.
Production philosophy
Artisanal, terroir-driven approach: each vineyard and parcel are tended and vinified separately to convey the character of the Vulture. Vineyard and cellar decisions are guided by respect for the fruit, the search for identity, and the aim to produce long-lived, distinctive wines.
Terroir and vineyards
Located on the slopes of Monte Vulture in Basilicata, the winery works with the volcanic soils typical of the Aglianico del Vulture appellation, at altitudes of 400–600 m or more and with pronounced diurnal temperature variation.
Awards and recognitions
The Don Anselmo cru has received wide recognition from the international press: among the awards and scores it has earned are high ratings from Wine Advocate, 93/100 from James Suckling, and Italian honors such as Gambero Rosso’s 3 Bicchieri.
