Fortana grapes, cAlso known as Uva d'Oro, they are certainly the oldest and most important grape variety in the Ferrara wine scene. The vine produces a fairly compact bunch, with thick and consistent skin, and is grown in low vines on sandy ridges. It survived the phylloxera unscathed and still today it has kept the "free foot", without American rootstock.
The grapes are harvested manually in the first half of October. Follows maceration at temperature controlled for 8 days with pressing soft of the skins, and afining sur lies in steel for 5 months and thereafter rest for 6 months.
In the glass it pours with an intense ruby red color. On the nose it gives a broad and complex scent, with pleasant fruity aromas of wild strawberries, cherries and raspberries, followed by one pink floral note, with features of spiciness, prolonging its refinement for at least 18 months.
To the tasting it's dry, with the soft components topped by a good acidity that reflects the characteristics of the vine. The finish is moderately persistent, characterized by flavor and a contained tannin. Baba it lends itself well to being tasted in combination with meat, roast and game dishes.
