Barolo Chinato - Fontanafredda is born in the heart of the Langhe, a land recognized for its extraordinary wine tradition and cultural identity. This unique product skillfully combines Barolo, a famous red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes, with a selection of aromatic herbs and spices, following the ancient chinato recipe. The result is a bitter and complex liqueur that retains all the structure and character of Barolo, enhanced by a rich bouquet of balsamic notes, cinchona, cinnamon, bitter orange, and myrrh. Intense amber in the glass, it is characterized by a perfect balance between sweetness and bitterness, with a long and enveloping finish.

It is ideal as a digestive after a refined dinner, paired with dark chocolate or aged cheeses, but it also finds a place in sophisticated cocktails. This chinato represents a bridge between the history of the territory and the art of fine drinking, preserved by the historic Fontanafredda cellar.

Diversified production: approximately 44% red wines, 26% white wines and 30% sparkling wines. Recent developments at 'Rinascimento Verde' include sustainability reports and biodiversity projects.
Winery history
The estate made history in the 19th century: purchased by Vittorio Emanuele II in 1858 and associated with Rosa Vercellana, the property was developed by the Mirafiore family and had already established its commercial reputation by the late 1800s. In the 20th century the Fontanafredda brand consolidated as a reference producer in the Langhe; after hardships related to crises and wars, the company regained momentum and, in 2008, was relaunched under new ownership led by Oscar Farinetti. In recent years Fontanafredda has undertaken a program of technical renewal and sustainability known as “Rinascimento Verde,” publishing sustainability reports and holding certifications as reported by the producer.
Production philosophy
Local production focused on quality, the protection of the vineyard landscape and sustainability. Fontanafredda coordinates a network of suppliers to operate across a wide area while maintaining a strong focus on conversion to organic farming, biodiversity and the transmission of agricultural practices between generations, with a significant investment in storytelling and the local community.
Terroir and vineyards
Located in Serralunga d'Alba, in the heart of the Langhe, the estate manages vineyards in several municipalities of the Langhe and lower Piedmont at varying altitudes. The area is characterized by limestone hills and the typical continental climate of the Langhe.
