The "Galatrona - Magnum" by Petrolo is a distinguished example of pure Merlot, produced in the renowned region of Tuscany, specifically in Val d’Arno di Sopra. This wine is a tribute to the excellence of Italian viticulture, highlighted by the magnum size that enhances its qualities and ensures optimal aging.

The Petrolo winery is known for its dedication to vineyard care, cultivated with sustainable methods to preserve integrity and the environment. The "Galatrona" originates from vines situated on iron- and clay-rich soils, giving the wine a robust and complex structure. Manual harvesting ensures meticulous selection of the grapes, reflected in the superior quality of the wine.

Once in the cellar, the wine ferments in small steel containers and then matures in French oak barriques, acquiring notes of vanilla and sweet spices that blend perfectly with primary aromas of ripe fruit like currant and plum. The palate is enveloping, characterized by silky tannins and a long, persistent finish with nuances of chocolate and coffee.

Serving this Merlot at a temperature of around 18-20°C allows for full appreciation of its range of aromas and structure. The "Galatrona - Magnum" by Petrolo pairs divinely with rich and elaborated dishes, such as red meats, game, and aged cheeses.

Ideal for a special occasion or as an elegant gift, the "Galatrona - Magnum" promises to evolve magnificently over the years, establishing itself as a true gem in the collection of every wine lover.

Winery history
Petrolo is a historic estate in the Val d’Arno di Sopra that has developed distinct vineyards and recognized crus over time. Among its historic vineyards are Bòggina and Vigna Galatrona, the estate’s first Merlot planting, documented as a vineyard from 1990 and forming the basis of the Galatrona label produced since 1994. Over the years the estate has progressively reoriented its production practices and enhanced individual parcels to produce top-quality wines.
Production philosophy
The estate states a strong connection to the land and a respectful approach to nature: low-yield production, attentiveness to the soil and measured interventions in the vineyard and cellar. Petrolo emphasizes a poetic vision of wine as a transformation of nature and favors agricultural practices oriented toward quality.
Terroir and vineyards
Located in Mercatale Valdarno on the ridges at the southeastern edge of Chianti Classico, the estate extends across natural terraces beneath the Torre di Galatrona. The vineyards are situated between 250 and 500 metres above sea level on soils characterized by layers of galestro, sandstone and alberese, conditions that contribute to the identity of the wines.
