Penfolds' Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet is a classic example of Australian skill in blending two of the most iconic grape varieties to create a wine that is both immediately accessible and capable of aging gracefully. This wine reflects Penfolds' philosophy of producing high quality wines that express the true essence of Australian terroir, whilst maintaining excellent value for money.

The fusion between Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon leads to a perfect balance of characteristics: Shiraz provides body, richness and spicy notes, while Cabernet Sauvignon adds structure, tannins and prolonged aging potential. This synergy results in a complex and layered wine, which captures attention from the first sip.

Visually, the Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet shows a deep red color with purple hues, a sign of its youth and liveliness. On the nose, the wine explodes with aromas of ripe red and black fruits, such as blackberry, cherry and plum, enriched by notes of sweet spices, chocolate and a slight hint of vanilla and oak, which add complexity without overpowering the fruit.

On the palate, the wine demonstrates a wonderful harmony between the generosity of the Shiraz and the firmness of the Cabernet. Ripe fruit flavors mix with notes of black pepper, licorice and a touch of aromatic herbs, supported by soft but present tannins and a fresh acidity that guides towards a long and satisfying finish.

Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet is incredibly versatile at the table, capable of accompanying a wide range of dishes, from those based on red meat, such as steaks and roasts, to spicier and tastier dishes. It is also an excellent companion for convivial evenings, where its accessibility and rich but balanced flavor profile will be appreciated by all.

Representing Penfolds' commitment to creating wines that reflect the identity and diversity of Australian wine, Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet presents itself as an excellent choice for those seeking a wine that combines tradition, quality and value.

Winery history
Penfolds was founded in Magill when Christopher and Mary Penfold planted the first vines in 1844. Over the decades the winery grew from local production of fortified and table wines to an international presence, with key moments such as the arrival of Max Schubert and the experimentation that led to the creation of the famous Grange in the 1950s. Today Penfolds combines tradition and innovation, continuing to nurture historic vineyards and select fruit from many regions for its flagship wines.
Production philosophy
The company's approach combines technical rigor and creativity: Penfolds prioritizes the pursuit of the "house style" through site selection, cellar experimentation and a vision that brings together science and craftsmanship to produce age-worthy, distinctive wines.
Terroir and vineyards
Historic headquarters in Magill, with sourcing from many Australian wine regions including Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, Eden Valley, Clare Valley, Wrattonbully and also cooler areas such as Tasmania. Penfolds also has international projects and fruit sources, for example Napa Valley in the United States.
