The Nero d'Avola DOC "Sedara" from Donnafugata is a red wine that magnificently embodies the spirit of the Sicilian terroir. Known for its robust expressiveness and harmonious balance, this wine celebrates one of the most cherished native varieties of the island.

The Donnafugata winery is renowned for its expertise in cultivating and vinifying grapes that reflect the authenticity and richness of Sicily. With "Sedara," the company offers a wine of great character, characterized by an intriguing deep ruby red color with violet hues.

On the nose, "Sedara" reveals notes of ripe berries, such as blackberries and raspberries, enriched by subtle hints of spices and a light touch of vanilla, a result of skillful aging in wood. This olfactory complexity translates into a rich and well-structured palate, where ripe red fruit merges with nuances of chocolate and tobacco, supported by soft tannins and well-balanced acidity that promises good longevity.

Ideal to accompany structured dishes, such as grilled red meat, roasts, and aged cheeses, "Sedara" from Donnafugata is more than a wine: it is a sensory journey exploring the depth and vibrant vivacity of Sicily.

A brief period of decanting before serving is recommended; this wine can be fully appreciated at a temperature of about 16-18°C, and is capable of elegantly evolving even after several years of aging in the cellar. Personality and tradition blend magnificently in this exemplary wine, making it an excellent choice for any collector or enthusiast of Italian wines.

Winery history
Donnafugata began as an entrepreneurial project of the Rallo family, led by Giacomo and Gabriella Rallo. The modern company grew out of the family’s historical roots in the province of Marsala. Since its founding the brand has expanded its presence across several Sicilian territories and is now led by the next generation. Over the years the company has complemented its traditional production with sustainability initiatives, experimentation with indigenous grape varieties, and cultural projects connected to art and music.
Production philosophy
Enhancing biodiversity and Sicily's indigenous grape varieties, combining respect for the land with sustainable practices. Donnafugata focuses on carefully crafted, sometimes niche wines rooted in distinct territories, with a strong connection to the arts and cultural initiatives such as Donnafugata Music & Wine.
Terroir and vineyards
Production is spread across several estates in Sicily: Contessa Entellina, the volcanic island of Pantelleria, the Vittoria district, the slopes of Etna and the historic cellars of Marsala. Each area is employed to express different grape varieties and styles, from Pantelleria’s passito wines to the reds of Vittoria and Etna.
Awards and recognitions
Donnafugata's iconic wines, particularly the Passito di Pantelleria Ben Ryé, have received accolades and high ratings from Italian and international guides and publications, including Gambero Rosso, DoctorWine, Veronelli, and other international reviewers cited by the company.
