The Riesling Trocken 2018 from C. H. Berres is an excellent example of how precision and elegance can merge in a highly expressive wine. Produced in the renowned vineyards of the Moselle in Germany, this wine epitomizes the Riesling variety, known for its capacity to beautifully reflect its terroir of origin.

The Riesling Trocken 2018 presents itself in a bright straw-yellow color, hinting at its lively qualities. On the nose, it stands out for an intense aromatic bouquet, where notes of white peach, lemon, and subtle hints of flint emerge—a classic indicator of the mineral-rich soils typical of the Moselle. This olfactory complexity invites tasting, promising an invigorating freshness.

On the palate, the wine is structured with well-balanced acidity that dances harmoniously with flavors of white flesh fruits and small touches of minerality. The finish is clean and refreshing, with a lingering sensation reminiscent of the purity of mountain springs. The dryness of the wine is moderate, allowing for a wider range of culinary pairings, from spicy Asian cuisine to delicate fish dishes or as a refreshing aperitif.

Ideal for enjoying while young, the Riesling Trocken 2018 by C. H. Berres also has aging potential, capable of developing further nuances and complexity over the coming years. Serve it well chilled to enhance all its virtues and prepare yourself for a sensory journey to the lush valleys of the Moselle.

Winery history
The Berres family has been present in Ürzig for centuries; historical documents mention the family as early as the 16th century, and a business linked to wine trading and hospitality was established in the 19th century. The company timeline includes milestones such as the wine-trading activity of Peter Nicolay, the construction of significant cellars in the early 20th century, and the development of vineyard holdings associated with several grand cru sites of the Mosel. The estate is currently operated as Weingut C. GbR.
Production philosophy
The winery prioritizes quality and hands-on work: harvesting and vineyard management are carried out mainly by hand, with repeated selection of the grapes when necessary. In the cellar the approach aims to extract the vineyard’s potential through gentle pressing, extended lees contact to increase complexity and structure, and limited filtration only before bottling.
Terroir and vineyards
The vineyards are located in the Mittelmosel, with parcels in prestigious sites such as Ürziger Würzgarten, Ürziger Goldwingert, Wehlener Klosterberg, Erdener Treppchen, Erdener Herrenberg, Kinheimer Hubertuslay and Zeltinger Deutschherrenberg. The vineyards lie mainly on steep slopes with slate-based soils typical of the Mosel.
Awards and recognitions
Throughout its history the winery has received recognition and is cited in publications and guides. Among the historical references is the designation "Hoflieferant des Deutschen Kaisers", and some of the estate's wines have been reviewed and rated by publications such as The Wine Advocate, Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator.
