Dalwhinnie Single Malt Scotch Whiskey 15 Years is a product of the homonymous distillery whose name derives from the Gaelic "meeting point", a meeting place for shepherds of sheep and cattle, a particularly remote area so much so that in 1994, it was officially described as recorded as the coldest inhabited place in Scotland. The only distillery that can use the water taken from Lochan an Doire Uaine, in Gaelic "Lake of the green grove", located at 600 m above sea level on the Drumochter Hills.
The only one that perfectly combines the clean, delicately malty taste of Dalwhinnie with the smoky and warm heat of the Highlands. The cradle of the distillery is between the verdant expanses of the Lowlands and the rough Speuside which begins about 40km further north. The style of this ancient and refined distillery is typical of the place: a union of sweetness and strength.
A company that wants to carry on old traditions, such as the use of tubs built with classic wood or the two copper stills used to send the alcohol in the leaching ducts to the distiller. There is also a particular curiosity about Dalwhinnie, that of having once been an official weather station with average temperatures among the lowest recorded in Great Britain.
In the glass you can admire its beautiful golden color; intense and fragrant aromas are perceived on the nose, very aromatic, with hints of heather and peat. The taste is decidedly delicate and persistent of heather, with notes of honey and vanilla followed by more intense hints of citrus and malted bread.
The finish is particularly long to be savored without haste. The intensity is surprising, starting slowly and ending with smoky and malty notes and back again.
