Distillation and production

Production method

Traditional double distillation in copper pot stills (Charentais) of the base wines; blending of numerous eaux-de-vie from different vintages and parcels; long maturation and finishing in French oak casks, with resting periods and transfers between casks before the final blend.

Distillation

Traditional double distillation on lees in copper pot stills (Charentais).

Ageing

Aging in French oak casks with long cellar maturation; for the most prestigious cuvées historic casks and controlled transfers are used before the final assembly.

Producer history Rémy Martin

Founded in 1724 by Rémy Martin in the Cognac region, the Maison progressively established itself with blends based on the Grande and Petite Champagne crus. In 1738 it obtained the "Accord Royal", which later inspired the cuvée 1738. Since 1948 the Maison chose to limit its selections to eaux-de-vie from the Grande and Petite Champagne crus only, defining the Fine Champagne identity. Today it is part of the Rémy Cointreau group, created from the merger of holdings linked to Rémy Martin and Cointreau at the end of the 20th century.

Production philosophy

Terroir-driven identity: privileging eaux-de-vie from Grande and Petite Champagne, careful aging in French oak and a focus on viticultural research and sustainability (experimentation with resistant varieties and viticultural practices to preserve the territory).

Territory

Headquarters and cellars in the town of Cognac (department of the Charente); the eaux-de-vie come exclusively from the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne crus of the Cognac district, France.
