Distillation and production

Production method

All production processes take place on-site except malting; the plant features a Porteus mill, multiple washbacks, copper stills and an in-house cooperage. Maturation and bottling are managed internally.

Distillation

Traditional distillation in copper pot stills; production is managed entirely on site except for malting.

Ageing

Maturation in casks in traditional on-site warehouses; principal expressions are matured in ex-bourbon casks (first-fill) with some bottles finished in sherry, Banyuls or wine casks for special editions.

Producer history Tullibardine

The site has a long history connected to brewing and distilling activities dating back to 1488; modern distilling was started by William Delme-Evans in the years immediately after World War II (the official page indicates 1947 as the year Delme-Evans converted the old brewery into a distillery). The facility remained inactive for a period between the 1990s and 2003, when a group of investors relaunched it; in 2011 ownership passed to a French group specialized in wines and spirits (a commercial entity later operating under the name Terroirs Distillers). Since then the distillery has resumed production and now has cooperage, maturation warehouses and an on-site bottling line.

Production philosophy

Strong focus on artisanal control of the entire production process (except malting), emphasizing the quality of the base spirit and the selection of casks to achieve clean expressions that highlight the quality of the wood and raw materials.

Territory

Blackford, Perthshire, at the foot of the Ochil Hills (Highlands region, Scotland). The distillery uses the Danny Burn springs as its water source.
