Discover the story, territory and wines of Michele Chiarlo.
Piedmontese winery known for producing crus from Langhe, Monferrato and Gavi, with a strong focus on indigenous grape varieties and sustainable practices.
The winery began as a family-run venture led by Michele Chiarlo, who started his activity as a producer in 1956; the first vintage of Barolo bottled under his name dates to 1958. Over the decades the estate acquired notable vineyards and helped enhance the profile of Barbera d'Asti and the Nizza area. Institutional milestones include its role in founding the Consorzio Grandi Vini in the 1980s and joining the Istituto Grandi Marchi in 2004. Michele Chiarlo passed away in November 2023; management continues with his children, preserving the estate’s territorial identity and the production of distinct crus.
Production philosophy
The estate focuses on single-varietal vinifications with indigenous grapes, artisanal care in the vineyards and sustainable management practices. The stated goal is to express the character of each cru through selected vineyards, separate vinifications by parcel and a measured use of wood in aging.
Terroir and vineyards
The vineyards are distributed across the Langhe, Monferrato and Gavi. Among the estate’s owned or managed crus are Cerequio, Cannubi and Tenuta La Court. The surrounding wine landscape is part of the estate’s identity and is showcased through cultural projects such as Art Park La Court.
Awards and recognitions
Recognized among Piedmont's leading producers; involved in the founding of the Consorzio Grandi Vini; internationally recognized for labels such as Cipressi Nizza.
