Pairing Red meats, aged cheeses
The "Barbera Riserva IGP" from La Riva is an ode to the classicism and richness of taste that can be achieved from one of the most celebrated grape varieties of Piedmont: Barbera. This specific label, "Il Gherardo," is distinguished by its meticulous selection of grapes and an aging process that promises to enhance all the intrinsic qualities of the variety.

Produced in limited quantities, this reserve wine features a deep and intense red color. On the nose, it is complex and captivating with notes of ripe red fruits such as cherry and plum, masterfully combined with hints of vanilla and chocolate, resultant from a skillful aging in barrique. On the palate, its exceptionality is confirmed with a well-balanced structure: the typical acidity of Barbera blends with silky tannins and a long, persistent Piedmont finish that gives way to nuances of sweet spices and a slight balsamic aftertaste.

The ideal pairing for this Barbera Riserva ranges from red meats cooked in rich and elaborate ways, such as braised dishes or roasts, to game dishes. It is also an excellent companion for aged cheeses and intense dishes based on mushrooms.

"Barbera Riserva IGP - Il Gherardo - La Riva" is not just a wine, but a true journey into the heart of Piedmontese enology, representing an excellent choice for those looking for a wine capable of evolving and surprising over time. A bottle destined to become a mainstay in the cellars of enthusiasts, ready to deliver emotions with every glass.

Winery history
Tenuta La Riva was founded as a family project, driven by Alberto's passion and the tradition of several generations. The estate has grown steadily, focusing on bottle refermentation and the promotion of local grape varieties such as Pignoletto and Trebbiano Modenese, with the family involved in every stage from vineyard to cellar.
Production philosophy
The winery favors refermentation in bottle and a low-intervention winemaking approach: organic farming, low use of sulfites and techniques that respect the land and health. For sparkling wines they practice long periods of lees contact and perform disgorgements à la volée for low- or no-dosage wines.
Terroir and vineyards
The estate, located in the Colli Bolognesi at Castello di Serravalle, is surrounded by the characteristic calanchi of the Emilian Apennines and lies about half an hour from Bologna. It cultivates indigenous and international grape varieties suited to the hilly terrain.
