The Sangiovese di Romagna DOC Modigliana Tramazo from Mutiliana shows an honest, regional profile. In the glass it displays a ruby red colour with purple highlights; on the nose it opens with notes of ripe cherry, small red fruits and delicate floral hints, accompanied by a trace of sweet spice and damp earth. The aromatic approach is straightforward, without excess, suggesting good everyday drinkability. It represents a clear example of Sangiovese in Romagna, appreciated for its immediacy.

On the palate it is sapid and medium-bodied, with present but softened tannins that support the drinking without weighing it down. The finish remains clean, with fruity echoes and modest persistence. It pairs with regional dishes, white meats and cured meats, as well as medium-aged cheeses; it is recommended to serve it cool, between 16 and 18 °C, opening it a few minutes beforehand if a softer expression is desired. Ideal for those seeking a direct, characterful everyday red.

Discover the story and wines of Mutiliana.

Mutiliana is the wine project of Giorgio Melandri based in Modigliana (Forlì‑Cesena, Emilia‑Romagna). It produces mountain wines focused on valley‑specific Sangiovese and labels such as the Pinot Noir “Ecce Draco”.
Region: Emilia‑Romagna (Romagna) — Modigliana, province of Forlì‑Cesena
Country: Italy
Winery history
Mutiliana began as a project by Giorgio Melandri — a wine critic and journalist — aimed at enhancing the Modigliana terroir. Melandri has selected and established vineyards in the three local valleys (Ibola, Tramazzo, Acereta) to produce distinct wines for each valley.
Production philosophy
Territorial and minimalist approach: separate vinifications by vineyard/valley, spontaneous fermentations, long macerations and predominant use of concrete tanks for ageing; emphasis on altitude and terroir expression.
Terroir and vineyards
Vineyards in the municipality of Modigliana (Apennines of Romagna, province of Forlì‑Cesena) distributed across the three valleys Acereta, Tramazzo and Ibola. For some mountain wines (e.g. the Pinot Noir “Ecce Draco”) parcels are located above 600 m a.s.l.
