The Lagrein Stoa by Josef Weger is a red wine Alto Adige DOC that shows restraint and a leaning toward freshness. On the nose it offers notes of dark berries such as plum and blackberry, accompanied by slightly spicy nuances and a subtle floral streak. On the palate it shows present but well-integrated tannins, a balance between juiciness and structure and a persistence that invites a second sip. It is a wine that favours a good dialogue with food rather than theatrical gestures, suitable for those who seek character without excess.

At the table it finds natural pairings with local dishes and recipes based on red meats or matured cheeses, while remaining versatile with more robust proposals. I recommend serving it at a moderate temperature to appreciate contrasts of fruit and freshness; it is suitable both for convivial moments and for an informal dinner. Those wishing to explore further may give it a few years of rest, but it is also suited to be enjoyed today.

Winery history
Founded in 1820 by Josef Weger; the winery has been family-run for six generations and historically exported within the Austro‑Hungarian territories. Johannes Weger is listed as responsible for cellar and vineyards and has led renovations and plantings of Burgundian varieties since 2015.
Production philosophy
Respect for the land and a balance between tradition and innovation; production focused on expressing the terroir using careful winemaking techniques (cold maceration, gentle pressing, temperature‑controlled stainless steel fermentation, aging on fine lees).
Terroir and vineyards
Vineyards around Cornaiano/Girlan (Appiano) located approximately between 435 and 600 m a.s.l.; declared vineyard area about 8 hectares. For the Chardonnay ‘Leite’ the winery indicates the Salorno site, trained in pergola on sandy soils with gravelly deposits.
