Winery history Muri-Gries

The present-day Muri-Gries estate stems from the Benedictine monks who moved from Muri to Gries, on the outskirts of Bolzano. Documents and the estate's history attest to the monastic community's continuous winegrowing since the 19th century, evolving from trading wine in demijohns to a progressive focus on quality bottled wines and on selected ranges such as "Abtei Muri."

Production philosophy

Combining respect for monastic tradition with innovation in the cellar: careful vineyard management, selective use of the best sites, and winemaking that blends stainless steel and wood to showcase the character of native varieties, particularly Lagrein.

Terroir and vineyards

Vineyards are concentrated around Bolzano and on the plain and sunny slopes of the Appiano/Eppan plateau. Soils include porphyritic and gravelly types that enhance the character of the local varieties.

Awards and recognitions

Among the recognitions received is, for example, the award of 3 Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso to the Pinot Noir Riserva "Abtei Muri" in the Vini d'Italia 2019 guide.
