Winery history Poggio di Sotto

Piero Palmucci acquired the estate in 1989 and the first Brunello vintage was produced in 1991. In the 1990s the Rosso and the first Riserva were also introduced; in 2011 the estate became part of the ColleMassari group, with subsequent investments in the vineyards and winery. Between 2012 and 2014 the estate conducted an ampelographic survey and launched conservation and massal-selection programs for Sangiovese clones.

Production philosophy

Strong focus on the vineyard and on the genetic diversity of Sangiovese: the estate practices massal selection and conducts targeted analyses in collaboration with universities to enhance local biotypes. In the cellar the approach is aimed at highlighting the sense of place, with interventions designed to preserve elegance and longevity.

Terroir and vineyards

Located on the southern hills of Montalcino, with vineyards situated at approximately 190–440 metres; the soils are mainly galestro and clay with calcareous veins and pebbles, and the microclimate is influenced by the nearby Monte Amiata.

Awards and recognitions

La Riserva 2016 has received 100 points from The Wine Advocate.
