The Magnum format of "Le Difese" by Tenuta San Guido is an excellent choice for enthusiasts looking for an elegant and quality wine, capable of embodying the essence of the Tuscan terroir with an accessible yet rich and complex proposal. Tenuta San Guido, renowned for creating some of the most prestigious Italian wines, such as Sassicaia, offers with "Le Difese" a tasting experience that reflects the winemaking mastery of the estate in a format ideal for sharing.

"Le Difese" is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese, two vines that express the perfect synergy between the structure and international elegance of the former and the typically Italian liveliness and acidity of the latter. This combination leads to a dynamic and pleasantly complex wine, which further benefits from aging in oak barrels to acquire balance and harmony.

Visually, the wine presents an intense ruby red color, which preludes a rich and inviting olfactory bouquet. On the nose, "Le Difese" exhibits notes of ripe red fruits, such as cherries and blackberries, accents of sweet spices and a light balsamic note, which together create a fascinating and complex aromatic profile.

In the mouth, the presence of Cabernet Sauvignon gives "Le Difese" a solid structure and well-integrated tannins, while Sangiovese brings freshness and a pleasant acidity that balances the wine. The result is a harmonious and enveloping palate, with a return of the fruity and spicy notes perceived on the nose, which leads to a long and persistent finish.

The Magnum format of "Le Difese" not only guarantees a better evolution of the wine over time but is also perfect for special occasions, allowing you to fully appreciate the quality and conviviality that this wine can offer. It pairs beautifully with meat-rich dishes, grilled preparations, medium-aged cheeses and Mediterranean dishes, making it a versatile companion for a wide range of culinary experiences.

In conclusion, "Le Difese" in Magnum format by Tenuta San Guido represents an opportunity to explore the richness of the Tuscan wine heritage through a wine that, despite being accessible, does not give up the complexity and elegance that characterize the production of this historic estate.

Tenuta San Guido – Winery in Toscana

Discover the story and wines of Tenuta San Guido.

A winery in the Tuscan Maremma (Bolgheri) known for the celebrated Sassicaia, a Bordeaux-style Super‑Tuscan.
Region: Toscana
Country: Italia
Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sangiovese
Producer of Sassicaia, the emblematic label of the "Super Tuscan" movement. Estate covering approximately 2,500 hectares in Maremma di Bolgheri. Two second wines are already on the market: Guidalberto and Le Difese. Diversified agricultural production: vineyards, olive groves, and initiatives related to wildlife and land conservation. Collaboration for the "Grappa di Sassicaia" distilled by Poli, using pomace from Tenuta San Guido.
Winery history
The estate is tied to the Incisa della Rocchetta family: Mario Incisa began experimenting with French varieties in Bolgheri and the private production of Sassicaia became commercial with the 1968 harvest. Over time Nicolò Incisa and his collaboration with winemaker Giacomo Tachis helped consolidate its reputation; subsequently the estate expanded its range with Guidalberto and Le Difese. Sassicaia obtained a reserved denomination, which reinforced the label’s distinctiveness.
Production philosophy
The estate's philosophy emphasizes respect for the ecosystem, the balance between people and nature, and an agricultural approach attentive to quality; the estate states agronomic practices aimed at soil care and sustainable management of its crops.
Terroir and vineyards
The estate extends into the Tuscan Maremma, in the Bolgheri area, on predominantly gravelly and stony soils reminiscent of the Graves formations in Bordeaux. The microclimate benefits from the maritime influence and the shelter of the hills behind it, factors that contribute to its suitability for Bordeaux grape varieties.
Awards and recognitions
International recognition for Sassicaia includes top scores from international critics and prominent placements in landmark tastings, such as the Decanter tasting in which Sassicaia was acknowledged. In addition, the 2015 vintage was named Wine of the Year by Wine Spectator.
