The Refosco Peduncolo Rosso di Cialla produced by Ronchi di Cialla is a wine that expresses the winemaking tradition of Friuli-Venezia Giulia with strength and finesse. This winery, renowned for its commitment to valorising the region's native varieties, has found in Refosco Peduncolo Rosso a symbol of its connection with the territory and its dedication to quality and authenticity.

Refosco Peduncolo Rosso, a characteristic grape variety of Friuli, is appreciated for its ability to produce wines of great structure and complexity, with an aging potential that makes them even more intriguing as the years pass. Ronchi di Cialla cultivates this vine in a strictly organic way, on particularly suitable soil which allows the distinctive characteristics of the grape to be enhanced.

Winemaking follows traditional methods, with fermentation that aims to preserve the varietal qualities of Refosco and refinement which, depending on the vintage, includes periods in wooden barrels, to enrich the wine with further nuances without overpowering its fruity and spicy character.

Visually, the Refosco Peduncolo Rosso di Cialla presents itself with an intense and deep red color, with purple reflections that testify to its youth. On the nose, the wine reveals a wide range of aromas: notes of red and black fruit, such as blackberry and cherry, intertwine with accents of spices, aromatic herbs and a light earthy note, which adds depth and complexity to the bouquet.

In the mouth, the wine is robust and well structured, with present but ripe tannins that give the wine a nice texture and a long, persistent finish. The acidity is well balanced, bringing freshness and drinkability, while the flavors of ripe fruit and spicy notes blend into a harmonious and pleasantly complex whole.

Ideal in combination with regional cuisine, red meats, game and mature cheeses, the Refosco Peduncolo Rosso di Cialla from Ronchi di Cialla is a wine that invites you to discover the oenological riches of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, offering a profound and authentically linked to the territory. With its production of Refosco Peduncolo Rosso, Ronchi di Cialla confirms its role as guardian of the region's winemaking traditions, presenting a wine that is both the expression of a historic grape variety and testimony to the contemporary excellence of Friulian viticulture.

Winery history
The Rapuzzi family founded the estate in 1970 in the small Cialla valley, restoring local vineyards and helping to save Schioppettino when the variety was nearly lost. In the 1970s and 1980s the winery perfected the recovery of vine cuttings, produced the first vintages of Schioppettino and received recognition that brought Cialla’s wines to international auctions. The denomination and boundaries of the Cialla cru were officially established by ministerial acts and regulations in subsequent years, consolidating the estate’s reputation as a custodian of Friulian indigenous varieties.
Production philosophy
The estate works exclusively with native grape varieties, favoring controlled yields, selective harvesting and minimal agronomic interventions. In the cellar, winemaking is kept as natural as possible and wines undergo extended ageing — including in wood — to achieve long-lived wines with a strong expression of terroir. Biodiversity protection and low-impact practices are integral to the production method.
Terroir and vineyards
The winery is located in the Cialla valley, a small hilly amphitheatre overlooking the Colli Orientali del Friuli, characterized by a tempered microclimate between the Adriatic Sea and the Julian Alps and by marly, well-stratified soils that favor the cultivation of local indigenous varieties. The area is officially recognized as the cru CIALLA for certain traditional varieties.
