The Friulano di Ronchi di Cialla is a distinctive example of one of the most representative vines of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, a region located in the north-east of Italy. This white wine embodies the dedication of the Ronchi di Cialla winery to the valorization of native vines and the production of wines that authentically express the terroir of origin.

Ronchi di Cialla, a pioneer winery in the research and conservation of local varieties, is committed to cultivating its vineyards with full respect for nature, following sustainable viticulture practices. Friulano, previously known as Tocai Friulano before EU restrictions on wine names, is known for its ability to produce elegant, aromatic wines, with a distinctive freshness and minerality.

The vinification of Friulano di Ronchi di Cialla aims to preserve the varietal characteristics and territorial identity of the vine. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures to maintain the freshness and integrity of the aromas, followed by a short period of maturation on the yeasts to enrich the wine with complexity and structure.

Visually, the wine presents a bright straw yellow color. On the nose, it offers an inviting and complex aromatic bouquet, with notes of white pulp fruit, such as apple and pear, enriched by floral nuances and a hint of bitter almond, typical of the Friulian region. The subtle minerality and a light herbaceous vein complete the olfactory profile, giving the wine a distinctive character.

In the mouth, the Friulano di Ronchi di Cialla reveals extraordinary harmony and balance. The acidic freshness is well integrated with the structure of the wine, while the flavors faithfully reflect the nose, offering a pleasant aromatic persistence and a clean sensation in the finish. This wine expresses a typical minerality that recalls the soil of origin, enriching the tasting experience with an additional dimension.

Ideal as an aperitif, the Friulano di Ronchi di Cialla pairs beautifully with light appetizers, fish dishes, seafood and fresh cheeses. Its versatility also makes it suitable for accompanying Asian cuisine and dishes with a certain aroma.

With its Friulano, Ronchi di Cialla offers a wine that is not only a tribute to the winemaking heritage of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, but also a demonstration of how respect for the land and native varieties can translate into high quality wines, capable of telling the history and character of their territory.

Winery history
The Rapuzzi family founded the estate in 1970 in the small Cialla valley, restoring local vineyards and helping to save Schioppettino when the variety was nearly lost. In the 1970s and 1980s the winery perfected the recovery of vine cuttings, produced the first vintages of Schioppettino and received recognition that brought Cialla’s wines to international auctions. The denomination and boundaries of the Cialla cru were officially established by ministerial acts and regulations in subsequent years, consolidating the estate’s reputation as a custodian of Friulian indigenous varieties.
Production philosophy
The estate works exclusively with native grape varieties, favoring controlled yields, selective harvesting and minimal agronomic interventions. In the cellar, winemaking is kept as natural as possible and wines undergo extended ageing — including in wood — to achieve long-lived wines with a strong expression of terroir. Biodiversity protection and low-impact practices are integral to the production method.
Terroir and vineyards
The winery is located in the Cialla valley, a small hilly amphitheatre overlooking the Colli Orientali del Friuli, characterized by a tempered microclimate between the Adriatic Sea and the Julian Alps and by marly, well-stratified soils that favor the cultivation of local indigenous varieties. The area is officially recognized as the cru CIALLA for certain traditional varieties.
