Winery history
The family-owned estate has centuries-old roots in the village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger; the current label J.L. Vergnon dates back to the replanting of the vineyard carried out by Jean-Louis Vergnon in 1950. In the 1980s the family began bottling their own wines, and the first commercial releases date from that period, receiving recognition from wine guides and specialist reviewers. Today the estate remains family-run, with successive generations involved in its management.
Production philosophy
The winery states a measured, environmentally respectful production approach: limited use of treatments, elimination of certain herbicides, and HVE certification. Winemaking favors terroir transparency and low or zero dosage where applicable in the cuvées.
Terroir and vineyards
Les Mesnil‑sur‑Oger, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs in the Marne department. The winery owns or works parcels in nearby renowned villages such as Avize, Oger, Vertus and Villeneuve; some wines come from lieux-dits known as Les Chétillons, Les Mussettes and Hautes Mottes.
Awards and recognitions
Positive mentions and scores reported by retailers and specialized guides; a "Coup de Cœur" mention for an early Extra‑Brut in the 1980s, and ratings published in publications such as Wine Spectator, James Suckling, Jeb Dunnuck and other specialized outlets.
