The Valpolicella Superiore Campo Lavei DOC from Cà Rugate is an elegant wine that reflects the authentic essence of its origin, the Verona territory. This wine is primarily made with Corvina grapes, supplemented by a small percentage of Rondinella, which are carefully selected and handpicked in the hillside vineyards of Valpolicella.

Once brought to the cellar, the grapes undergo a light drying process that gives the wine a more concentrated structure and a distinctive aromatic complexity. Afterwards, the wine matures for approximately 18 months in large wooden barrels, which helps to harmonize the flavors and adds subtle notes of spices and vanilla.

From an organoleptic point of view, the Valpolicella Superiore Campo Lavei presents a deep ruby red color. The nose features intense aromas of ripe red fruits, such as cherries and blackberries, combined with hints of black pepper and tobacco. On the palate, the wine is full and velvety, with a perfect balance between acidity and soft tannins, leading to a long and pleasantly persistent finish.

This wine is ideal to pair with rich meat dishes, such as braised meats and stews, but also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and mushroom-based dishes. The Valpolicella Superiore Campo Lavei DOC from Cà Rugate is an excellent example of how tradition and innovation can converge in a high-quality product, capable of satisfying the most demanding palates.

Winery history
The Tessari family has been cultivating vineyards in the area for over a century; the Ca' Rugate label first appeared on bottles in 1986. In 2001 Michele Tessari, the fourth generation of the family, launched a project to reorganize the estate and expand the vineyards, and the new winery in Montecchia di Crosara was inaugurated in 2002. Over the years the estate has developed wine‑tourism activities and created a wine museum to tell the family's agricultural history.
Production philosophy
Quality that begins in the vineyard is a priority: sustainable management and low-impact practices to enhance native varieties and the expression of the terroir. Since 2004 the estate has adopted more sustainable agronomic methods and demonstrates a commitment to traceability and preserving the local character. Since 2013 it has been part of Indipendenti del Soave.
Terroir and vineyards
The vineyards are situated on the hills of Val d'Alpone and on land well suited to Soave Classico, Valpolicella and Lessini Durello. The soils have a volcanic and calcareous‑basaltic composition typical of the Soave area; some parcels lie on ridges and terraces with steep slopes and average elevations of around 400–450 meters above sea level.
Awards and recognitions
Numerous national and international awards, including several 'Tre Bicchieri' from the Gambero Rosso guide for the winery's wines, and medals/recognitions at international competitions also dedicated to mountain and heroic wines.
