Winery history Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari Tenute – Tenute del Cabreo

The Folonari family acquired the Zano estate in 1967. La Pietra grew out of Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari’s decision, in 1983, to vinify and age Chardonnay in the way they did great Tuscan reds.

Production philosophy

The estate gives Chardonnay a Tuscan interpretation: initial fermentation in stainless steel, followed by ageing in wood and an extended maturation, then bottle ageing.

Terroir and vineyards

Tenute del Cabreo lies within the municipality of Greve in Chianti and comprises Zano and Casa di Sala, in Panzano in Chianti. La Pietra is made from Chardonnay grown at Casa di Sala, where the soils are characterised by white clay and galestro.
