Winery history Domaine Berthet-Bondet

Jean and Chantal Berthet-Bondet settled in Château-Chalon in the 1980s; the house was purchased in 1984 and the first harvests took place in 1985. Their daughter Hélène rejoined the estate in 2013 and took over management in 2018. Over time the estate has grown, focusing on the Jura’s traditional practices, with prolonged barrel aging for the cuvées aged under a veil and for vin jaune.

Production philosophy

Hand work in steep vineyards, respect for the terroir and organic practices. Careful soil management and cellar aging to express the characteristics of the different terroirs of the Jura.

Terroir and vineyards

The estate is located in the village of Château-Chalon. The vineyards are divided into plots within the AOC Château-Chalon and Côtes du Jura appellations, on predominantly marl and gravel soils; many parcels are situated on steep slopes that require hand-harvesting and traditional cellar work.

Awards and recognitions

Hélène Berthet-Bondet was named Winemaker of the Year for the Jura in the Guide Hachette des Vins 2022; her 2016 Savagnin cuvée received a Coup de Coeur in the same edition.
