Winery history Yarra Yering

Yarra Yering was planted in the late 1960s by Dr. Bailey Carrodus; the site was chosen for its well‑drained soils and for its location sheltered from late frosts. The first commercial vintage dates back to 1973. After Carrodus's passing in 2008, the property was acquired by passionate enthusiasts who have preserved the original philosophy and continued to build the brand's reputation.

Production philosophy

Focus on fruit quality and small-batch production — a philosophy also expressed by the motto 'grown not made'. The approach favors naturally low yields, careful attention to vineyard sites and winemaking aimed at elegance, structure and longevity in the bottle.

Terroir and vineyards

Located in Gruyere in the Yarra Valley, the estate sits on a north-facing slope of the Warramate Hills; the soils are mixed with bands of gravel that promote drainage and lend character to the wines. The climate is characterised by warm days and cool nights typical of the Yarra Valley.

Awards and recognitions

Among the accolades: Sarah Crowe was named James Halliday Winemaker of the Year and Gourmet Traveller Winemaker of the Year; the winery has received significant recognitions, including James Halliday Winery of the Year and Wine of the Year.
