Distillation and production

Distillation and production

Production method

Traditional production with double distillation in copper pot stills; a 10,000 L wash still and a 6,000 L spirit still fitted with a boil‑ball neck for increased reflux. Use of washbacks in both wood (oak and Oregon pine) and stainless steel. The new make is cut at around 75% ABV and diluted with local spring water to about 63.5% ABV before casking.

Distillation

Double distillation in copper pot stills with shell‑and‑tube condensers (externally positioned), combined use of wooden and stainless steel washbacks; new make cut at around 75% ABV and reduced with local water before filling into casks.

Ageing

Maturation in dunnage warehouses at the distillery, close to the coast; use of a mix of cask types to achieve different profiles; many releases are non‑chill‑filtered and of natural colour.

Producer history Ardnamurchan

The distillery was built between 2013 and 2014 and began production in 2014; the first official release meeting maturation requirements was published in 2017. The project was developed by owner Adelphi (known as an independent bottler) and the distillery is now recognised as a West Highlands producer with a rapidly expanding range and international presence.

Production philosophy

A 'light touch' production approach: valorise local resources, minimise environmental impact and promote a circular economy. Ardnamurchan focuses on sustainability (renewable energy, recovery of co‑products) and supply‑chain transparency, using digital technologies to trace the provenance of each bottle.

Territory

Ardnamurchan peninsula, Glenbeg (Acharacle), Lochaber — West Highlands of Scotland; maturation in dunnage warehouses adjacent to the Atlantic coast, with a maritime influence on the aromatic profile.
