Distillation and production

Distillation and production

Production method

Produced in relatively small batches with focused processing and maturation: 100% Icelandic barley, distillation and subsequent aging in casks; for some expressions finishes are applied in casks previously used for craft beer, sherry or aging on Icelandic birch wood. Some bottlings are released as single barrel editions.

Ageing

Aging in casks; some batches receive finishes in craft beer casks, sherry casks or Icelandic birch casks/finishes. Single barrel bottlings and maturations of around 3 years are documented for certain expressions.

Producer history Flóki

The Flóki brand was created within Eimverk's production, a family-run operation founded in 2009. The name evokes the Norse navigator Hrafna-Flóki and the stated aim is to craft grain-to-glass spirits using Icelandic raw materials. Over the years the range has expanded to include several single malts and spirits derived from the same base distillate.

Production philosophy

Artisanal production and use of local ingredients: barley grown in Iceland and Icelandic spring water. Emphasis on small batches, experimenting with different cask finishes and local traditional techniques (for example smoking barley with sheep dung).
