Distillation and production

Distillation and production

Production method

Production from selected pomace; product sheets and technical sources cite steam distillation as the method employed, with references to the use of copper stills for some expressions. Some labels undergo subsequent barrique aging.

Distillation

Steam distillation; references indicate the use of traditional stills/forms of distillation to preserve the aromas of the pomace, with mentions of copper stills for some references.

Ageing

Aging in barrique for the 'Barrique' line (sources report residence times of about 12, 24 and 36 months for the various expressions).

Producer history Frattina

The Frattina label was born in association with Villa Frattina (estate and cellar in Ghirano di Prata) and established itself with a range of single-varietal grappas from the 1980s and 1990s. The Averna/Fratelli Averna family added Villa Frattina to its portfolio (including wine, sparkling wine and grappa production). In 2014 the Averna activity (including the Frattina label) joined the Campari group; in 2025 Campari agreed to divest the activities related to Cinzano and Frattina to the Caffo Group (agreement announced in summer 2025).

Production philosophy

Frattina focuses on valorising individual grape varieties (single-varietal) to obtain grappas characterised by softness and delicacy; the range includes both young single-varietal expressions and distillates aged in wood for more complex notes.

Territory

Ghirano di Prata (Prata di Pordenone), province of Pordenone, region Friuli-Venezia Giulia (Italy).
