Distillation and production

Production method

Production based on typical local grapes (Baco and Ugni blanc) with traditional vinifications followed by on-site distillation using a mobile Armagnac still (continuous distillation). Aging takes place in 400 L French oak casks, in humid cellars on packed-earth floors; blending and assemblage produce both single vintages and blends of various ages.

Distillation

Continuous distillation using a mobile Armagnac still (copper, mobile, 1960s)

Ageing

Maturation in 400 L French oak casks in humid cellars on packed-earth floors; progressive reductions and blending to prepare for bottling.

Producer history La Licorne

La Licorne is a historic name linked to the vineyards on the hill called “Le Louvre” in Panjas (Gers). La Licorne labels come from family reserves and from winemaking and blending carried out for generations; the producers associated with the brand have marketed vintages and blends for more than a century, storing and aging the eaux-de-vie in the farm stables and cellars of the estate.

Production philosophy

Strong focus on territory and Armagnac tradition: highlighting the Bas-Armagnac terroir through slow aging in French oak and a production oriented toward varietal typicity and the organoleptic longevity of vintages.

Territory

Bas-Armagnac, 'Le Louvre' hill, commune of Panjas, department of Gers (France). Sandy soils typical of the appellation with favorable sun exposure.
