Production method

Production and maturation mainly carried out at Sasanokawa Shuzo's Asaka Distillery; the range includes blends (blended/blended malt), single malts and single casks. The brand uses locally produced malt spirits and undertakes blending and selected bottlings.

Ageing

Maturation in casks in Japan; the use of ex-bourbon barrels and sherry casks (including Oloroso) is documented for some releases; for particular editions finishing/maturation in unconventional casks (e.g. Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley) has also been used.

Producer history Yamazakura (Sasanokawa Shuzo Distillery)

Whisky production by the parent company, Sasanokawa Shuzo, has historical roots (the company is cited as founded in the 18th century) and obtained a licence to produce whisky in 1946. In recent years the company reopened and expanded its whisky activity by building/restarting the Asaka Distillery (active since the mid-2010s) and relaunching the Yamazakura line with blended, single malt and single cask releases.
