Winery history
The name is linked to Maison Klipfel of Barr: the historic house dates back to the 19th century and the André Lorentz label has developed over time as a line connected to that heritage. André Lorentz entered the business by marrying into the Klipfel family and contributed to the house’s commercial development; management later passed to other local families and, more recently, operations have been run under the umbrella of the Helfrich family / Groupe Grands Chais de France. There are also wines produced from vineyards and historic lieux-dits such as the Clos Zisser on the Kirchberg de Barr.
Production philosophy
The range emphasizes the expression of the Alsatian terroir and its lieux-dits: it includes both wines from typical grape varieties and wines linked to Grand Cru. Some recent additions are indicated as coming from vineyards in conversion to organic farming; the approach reflects a focus on soil typicity and on enhancing the local crus.
Terroir and vineyards
Estate and vineyards are located in Alsace. Notable mentions include the Grand Cru Kirchberg de Barr and the Clos Zisser, with wines sourced from vineyards on the calcareous-marly slopes typical of the cru.
Awards and recognitions
Recognitions reported for some cuvées: Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Clos Zisser recognized at the Vinalies; ratings and mentions in the Guide Hachette for the Pinot Gris 2021.
