The Amaro S. Maria was born centuries ago and is still prepared today according to the ancient original recipe kept secretly by the fathers of the Convent of S. Maria al Monte in Genoa. Over thirty ingredients are used, with meticulous control of the botanicals; the processing and maturing period is almost a year and a half. Among the ingredients are used: aloe, rhubarb, absinthe, myrrh, kola nuts and cardamom. The recipe, which has never been changed since 1858, has been handed down for five generations.

The infusion is carried out cold and lasts about two months, in order to extract all the noble parts of the plants rich in healing properties. Once it has matured, alcohol and sugar are added to the preparation, and it rests for another six months. It gives a full and round flavor, known for the excellent harmony of the aromas and the excellent digestive properties that make it a unique and inimitable bitter.

Pleasant drunk smooth, ideal with ice at the end of a meal and as a corrective to coffee.
