Barbaresco DOCG Coste Rubin - Fontanafredda is born on the hills between Neive and Treiso, the beating heart of Piedmont. This red wine, made mainly from Nebbiolo grapes, best represents the complexity and elegance typical of the Barbaresco denomination. The aging takes place in wooden barrels, which give the wine a harmonious structure and velvety tannins, perfectly integrated into a bouquet rich with scents of withered roses, ripe cherries, and delicate spices. The sip is enveloping, with good acidity that guarantees freshness and lasting persistence. The balance between power and finesse makes Coste Rubin an ideal companion for traditional Piedmontese dishes like braised meats, roasted red meats, and aged cheeses. Winery history
The estate made history in the 19th century: purchased by Vittorio Emanuele II in 1858 and associated with Rosa Vercellana, the property was developed by the Mirafiore family and had already established its commercial reputation by the late 1800s. In the 20th century the Fontanafredda brand consolidated as a reference producer in the Langhe; after hardships related to crises and wars, the company regained momentum and, in 2008, was relaunched under new ownership led by Oscar Farinetti. In recent years Fontanafredda has undertaken a program of technical renewal and sustainability known as “Rinascimento Verde,” publishing sustainability reports and holding certifications as reported by the producer.
Production philosophy
Local production focused on quality, the protection of the vineyard landscape and sustainability. Fontanafredda coordinates a network of suppliers to operate across a wide area while maintaining a strong focus on conversion to organic farming, biodiversity and the transmission of agricultural practices between generations, with a significant investment in storytelling and the local community.
Terroir and vineyards
Located in Serralunga d'Alba, in the heart of the Langhe, the estate manages vineyards in several municipalities of the Langhe and lower Piedmont at varying altitudes. The area is characterized by limestone hills and the typical continental climate of the Langhe.
