The 10 year old Blandy's Malmsey, produced by the historic Gordon E Blandy's winery, exemplifies excellence in the world of Madeira wines. This wine, featuring the Malvasia grape variety (locally known as Malmsey), is renowned for its rich sweet profile and extraordinary aromatic complexity, the result of a meticulous aging process that helps develop and refine its unique characteristics.

Gordon E Blandy's, one of the oldest and most respected companies producing Madeira, has perfected over the centuries the winemaking and aging techniques that define Madeira's distinctive style. Aging for 10 years in wooden barrels under the heat of the island sun gives this Malmsey incredible complexity and depth, while maintaining the balance between sweetness and acidity that is fundamental to the typicality of the wine.

The "canteiro" process, which involves aging the barrels in naturally warm environments, allows the wine to slowly develop its distinctive aromas and flavors, including notes of candied fruit, toffee, chocolate and a subtle vein of acidity that maintains the vibrant and fresh wine on the palate.

Visually, the 10-year-old Blandy's Malmsey presents itself with a deep amber color, testifying to the prolonged aging to which it has been subjected. On the nose, the wine unfolds a wide range of aromas, from those of dried fruit, such as figs and dates, to notes of honey, caramel, and sweet spices, with a touch of candied orange and a light oxidative note that adds complexity without overpowering the freshness.

In the mouth, the wine is extraordinarily rich and velvety, with a sweetness well balanced by a lively acidity that leads to a long and persistent finish. The aromatic palette is consistent with the olfactory impressions, offering a rich and layered tasting experience, which invites slow and satisfying meditation.

Ideal as a dessert wine, Blandy's Malmsey aged 10 years is perfect in combination with chocolate desserts, candied fruit or blue cheeses. It can also be enjoyed alone, as a conclusion to a meal, offering a moment of pure pleasure and contemplation. Its richness and complexity make it an extraordinary wine that celebrates the tradition and excellence of Gordon E Blandy's Madeiras.

Winery history
Blandy’s is one of the historic names in Madeira production: the Blandy family has led the company for generations, and the label is recognised for preserving traditional ageing techniques and for operating the Blandy’s Wine Lodge in Funchal. Over the years the company has kept collections of vintage bottles and expanded its portfolio to include frasqueiras, colheitas and blends of different ages.
Production philosophy
It combines respect for traditional Madeira winemaking practices—ageing in the island’s characteristic rooms and casks—with initiatives in innovation and sustainability. The winery emphasises the varietal origins of its wines and the care taken in ageing to express the different styles of Madeira.
Terroir and vineyards
Operations are concentrated on the island of Madeira, with the winery and Blandy’s Wine Lodge in Funchal. Grapes are sourced from several areas of the island, including Seixal, Câmara de Lobos and Jardim da Serra, and the producer also uses cooler sites, such as Caniçal, for certain ageing.
