Gordon E Blandy's 5 Year Old Blandy's Sercial is a vibrant and distinctive expression of Madeira, known for its dry character and extraordinary acidity. This wine, produced by the historic Blandy's winery, one of Madeira's oldest and most respected producers, reflects the skill and tradition in the art of creating fortified wines of exceptional quality.

The Sercial grape variety, grown in the highest areas of the island of Madeira, is famous for its ability to produce wines with a high level of acidity and a subtle aromatic complexity, characteristics that marry perfectly with Madeira's specific aging method. Aging for 5 years, following the traditional "canteiro" process, further enhances these qualities, allowing the wine to develop aromatic depth and variety while maintaining its unmistakable freshness.

During the "canteiro" process, the barrels are stored in warm environments which facilitate slow oxidation and evaporation, helping to concentrate the flavors and harmonize the overall profile of the wine. This method guarantees that the Sercial aged 5 years acquires its unique and distinctive characteristics, becoming a notable example of the dry typology of Madeira.

Visually, the 5-year-old Blandy's Sercial presents a pale gold color, which reflects its elegance and finesse. On the nose, it offers a range of intriguing aromas ranging from citrus and dried fruit notes to nuances of aromatic herbs and a light touch of wood, due to aging in barrels. These aromas are intertwined with a subtle minerality that adds complexity to the bouquet.

In the mouth, the wine surprises with its liveliness, with a marked acidity that balances the light intrinsic sweetness and leads to a long and dry finish. The structure of Blandy's Sercial aged 5 years is refined, with flavors that reflect the olfactory notes and add dimensions of freshness and cleanliness to the palate.

Ideal as an aperitif, Blandy's Sercial aged 5 years can also accompany a variety of dishes, especially those based on fish, seafood or dishes that require a wine with strong acidity to balance the flavors. Its versatility and elegant dry profile make it a valuable addition to any table or wine collection, offering a tasting experience that highlights the richness and diversity of Madeira wines.

Winery history
Blandy’s is one of the historic names in Madeira production: the Blandy family has led the company for generations, and the label is recognised for preserving traditional ageing techniques and for operating the Blandy’s Wine Lodge in Funchal. Over the years the company has kept collections of vintage bottles and expanded its portfolio to include frasqueiras, colheitas and blends of different ages.
Production philosophy
It combines respect for traditional Madeira winemaking practices—ageing in the island’s characteristic rooms and casks—with initiatives in innovation and sustainability. The winery emphasises the varietal origins of its wines and the care taken in ageing to express the different styles of Madeira.
Terroir and vineyards
Operations are concentrated on the island of Madeira, with the winery and Blandy’s Wine Lodge in Funchal. Grapes are sourced from several areas of the island, including Seixal, Câmara de Lobos and Jardim da Serra, and the producer also uses cooler sites, such as Caniçal, for certain ageing.
