The Brunello di Montalcino by Fonterenza represents excellence in the landscape of Italian wines, a jewel that shines in its DOCG denomination. Located in the green hills of Tuscany, this wine is a tribute to the purity of Sangiovese, the quintessential native grape variety, cultivated using organic and biodynamic methods that respect the environment and enhance its potential.

With an intense ruby red color, typical of the best Brunello, Fonterenza stands out for its balanced structure and an olfactory complexity that enchants the nose with aromas of ripe cherries, sweet spices, and a slight trace of wet earth and tobacco, derived from a maturation in the barrel lasting no less than four years.

In the mouth, the robustness of well-integrated tannins combines with a lively acidity that promises long aging. The rich and elegant flavor, with notes of red fruit, chocolate, and a hint of vanilla, leaves a persistent and pleasantly harmonious aftertaste.

Ideal to accompany red meat dishes, game, and aged cheeses, the Brunello di Montalcino Fonterenza is a superb choice for connoisseurs seeking a wine that can evolve beautifully over the years. Serve at a temperature of 18-20°C to enhance all its qualities.

Small Montalcino winery led by sisters Margherita and Francesca Padovani, focused on organic and biodynamic practices and producing natural wines predominantly from Sangiovese.
Region: Toscana
Country: Italia
Grapes: Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Trebbiano, Malvasia, Procanico, Ravanese, Ansonica
Management and production are overseen by the sisters Margherita and Francesca Padovani. The vineyard area is reported to be around 4.2 hectares, divided into several parcels. Biodynamic practices and manual work following the lunar calendar; plant protection with natural remedies. Wines focused on Sangiovese, with some IGT labels and natural cuvées.
Winery history
The estate began with the conversion of a family farm in the hills south of Montalcino. Twin sisters Margherita and Francesca Padovani progressively converted the property to organic/biodynamic viticulture starting in the late 1990s: some sources indicate work began around 1997, while others report the first plantings in 1999 and the first vintages in the early 2000s. The estate has grown while maintaining an artisanal approach, with small vineyards and winemaking based on indigenous yeasts and minimal cellar intervention.
Production philosophy
An approach based on sustainable, biodynamic agriculture, hands-on vineyard work, the use of natural remedies for vine protection, and spontaneous fermentations in the cellar with reduced use of additives. The stated goal is to highlight the expression of the terroir in the bottle.
Terroir and vineyards
The vineyards are located in Sant'Angelo in Colle. The area features varied soils and hilly terrain with exposures and elevations reported at around 420–444 meters above sea level, influenced by marine currents and the nearby Monte Amiata.
