Chateau de Phelan Segur 2021 comes from the Saint-Estèphe appellation and presents as a structured red wine that reflects its link to the terroir. The bottle gives a restrained impression: on the nose there are notes of ripe fruit and subtle spicy hints, without excessive over-structuring. It is advisable to serve it at a moderate temperature to appreciate the olfactory and taste balances, avoiding extremes that could mask its delicate nuances.

On the palate it shows present but integrated tannins, with a progression tending toward a long, dry finish; the fruity element alternates with slightly earthy notes, offering good persistence. It pairs well with red meat dishes, roasts and aged cheeses, but also lends itself to enjoyment on its own. For those wishing to cellar it, a few years in a cool place can refine the overall harmony, though it remains pleasant when consumed within the first years after purchase.

Winery history
Viticulture in the Saint-Estèphe area dates back to Roman times; significant development took place in the Middle Ages thanks to trade with England. The gradual drainage of marshland from the 17th century expanded the area available for cultivation. The region received official recognition as an AOC in 1936 and has since consolidated its oenological identity within the Médoc.
Production philosophy
Winemaking aims to showcase the terroir: gravelly soils with a relatively higher clay content provide structure and aging potential. The appellation's wines favor tannin extraction and aging, with blends often dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon but with significant use of Merlot to round out the younger wines.
Terroir and vineyards
Situated at the northernmost point of the Médoc’s communal appellations, Saint-Estèphe borders Pauillac and stretches along the left bank of the Gironde. The soils are typically gravelly, and the climate is moderated by the influence of the large estuary.
