Castello di Ama’s Chianti Classico DOCG is a red wine identified by the appellation shown on the label. Its name places it in the Chianti Classico category, and Castello di Ama is listed as the producer. The vintage, grape variety, and winemaking or ageing choices are not specified, so it is not possible to reliably assign it a precise aromatic profile, a particular structure, or expectations for its development in the bottle. It is an option for those looking for a red wine with a recognised appellation, while leaving the tasting and the information on the bottle to provide further detail.

For serving, a moderate temperature and a generously sized glass are general recommendations for red wine, though they do not replace any specific guidance from the producer. At the table, it can accompany flavoursome dishes such as meat, roasts, pasta with sauce, and semi-aged cheeses. The most suitable pairing will depend on the wine’s actual character and the recipe. For a balanced match, it is best not to overwhelm the wine with excessively strong seasonings. A bottle suited to a convivial dinner or an informal occasion, for those who wish to choose by appellation and the Castello di Ama name without relying on tasting descriptors that are not available.

Castello di Ama – Winery in Tuscany

Discover the story and wines of Castello di Ama.

Winery based in Ama, in the municipality of Gaiole in Chianti. It produces Haiku, a red Toscana IGT wine made from Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.
Region: Tuscany
Country: Italy
Winery history
Castello di Ama was founded in 1976 by four families from Rome, who began renewing the vineyards and building a new winery. Marco Pallanti took over winemaking in 1982. Haiku was created in 2009.
Production philosophy
The winery says it focuses on quality and expressing its place of origin. Haiku interprets Ama’s terroir through a blend that differs from the traditional Chianti Classico varietal mix: about 50% Sangiovese, with the remainder divided equally between Cabernet Franc and Merlot.
Terroir and vineyards
The vineyards surround the village of Ama, in the municipality of Gaiole in Chianti, within the Chianti Classico area. Haiku is associated with the Montebuoni vineyard; the winery gives an elevation of about 430–520 metres for its vineyards.
