The Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva dei Vigneti La Selvanella is a red wine that embodies the excellence of the production of Melini, one of the most historic and renowned wineries in the Chianti Classico region. This Reserve is produced exclusively with Sangiovese grapes selected from the La Selvanella vineyards, known for their privileged position and unique terroir, which gives the wine an unparalleled complexity and depth.

The Riserva Vigneti La Selvanella stands out for its traditional approach to winemaking, combined with modern techniques to enhance the qualities of Sangiovese. Aging in oak barrels for a prolonged period enriches the wine with toasted and spicy aromatic nuances, while maintaining the freshness and liveliness of the fruit.

Visually, the wine has an intense ruby red color, with garnet reflections that develop with aging. On the nose, the bouquet is rich and complex, with dominant notes of ripe red fruits, cherries and plums, complemented by hints of spices, leather, tobacco and a light trace of vanilla, demonstrating the elegant integration between fruit and wood.

On the palate, the Chianti Classico Riserva Vigneti La Selvanella reveals a solid structure and a tannic richness well balanced by acidity. The red fruit flavors blend with notes of sweet spices and a light minerality, leading to a long and persistent finish that leaves a pleasantly complex and harmonious sensation.

Ideal to accompany rich and structured dishes, such as grilled red meats, game, mushroom dishes and mature cheeses, this Riserva represents an excellent choice for special occasions, offering a profound tasting experience that reflects the tradition and quality of Chianti Classico .

Winery history
La Selvanella is known as one of the first crus to appear on the label in the Chianti Classico denomination: the first vintage cited in sources is 1969. Over time the La Selvanella vineyard has been celebrated for the consistency of its style and for vertical tastings by specialist critics. The wine’s commercial management and promotion are linked to well‑established Tuscan operators.
Production philosophy
The approach is centered on expressing the single vineyard: restrained winemaking practices that respect the grapes and the terroir, massal selection for Sangiovese, and extended maturation in large casks to preserve structure and balance while enhancing the cru's elegance.
Terroir and vineyards
Lucarelli locality, in the municipality of Radda in Chianti, on the right bank of the Pesa stream; altitudes range from approximately 330 to 600 metres above sea level. Soils are dominated by Macigno, Formazione di Sillano and occasional patches of Pietraforte; the morphological setting and the cool microclimate contribute to a marked diurnal temperature range and to the aromatic profile of Sangiovese.
