The Controguerra Rosso Riserva DOC "Lumen" from the Illuminati winery encapsulates the excellence of the Abruzzo region, a true gem for connoisseurs. This wine stands out for its robust aromatic profile and elegant structure, the result of skilled winemaking and extensive aging.

Produced primarily with Montepulciano grapes and a small percentage of other local varieties, Lumen expresses the typical character of Controguerra wines. On the nose, it opens with intense aromas of ripe red fruits, sweet spices, and a slight touch of vanilla from barrel aging. This olfactory complexity is also found on the palate, where the wine reveals itself to be full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a persistent finish that leaves a pleasant sensation of warmth and balance.

The currently available vintage has been particularly favorable, imparting the wine with significant aging potential. It's recommended to decant the wine for a few hours before serving to enhance all its nuances.

Ideal gastronomic pairings include hearty dishes such as red meat roasts, game, and aged cheeses. A meditative wine, perfect for concluding the evening.

The Controguerra Rosso Riserva DOC "Lumen" from Illuminati is a prestigious choice for those seeking a wine that authentically and passionately represents the excellence of the Abruzzo terroir.

Winery history
The business traces its origins to the Illuminati family and dates back to 1890, when Nicola Illuminati began winemaking on the border between Marche and Abruzzo. Over the generations ownership and management have remained within the family; in the 1960s Dino Illuminati established the headquarters in Controguerra and expanded the vineyards in the historic area known as Zanna. Today the winery remains a family-run enterprise with multiple generations involved.
Production philosophy
Production focused on quality and a connection to the land: artisanal work in the vineyard and cellar, respect for local agricultural practices, and care of the processes from vine to bottle to express the identity of the Colline Teramane.
Terroir and vineyards
Colline Teramane — a hilly area between the Apennines and the Adriatic Sea, characterized by temperature variations and windiness that promote balanced ripening of the grapes.
