Cornas - Domaine Auguste Clape represents a true icon in the Rhône region, known for its deep dedication to quality and extreme attention to detail in the winemaking process. This wine stands out for its intense expression of Syrah, with grapes selected from the oldest vines that benefit from an optimal position and an ideal microclimate.

In appearance, it presents a deep ruby red color, tending towards violet with aging. On the nose, it is complex and penetrating, with notes of ripe black fruit, spices, and a slight hint of smoke, thanks also to aging in barrique which adds layers of vanilla and leather. On the palate, the Cornas from Domaine Auguste Clape expresses extraordinary tannic richness, balanced by a lively freshness that promises excellent aging potential.

Ideal as a companion to robust dishes such as meat stews, game, and aged cheeses, this wine exemplifies the power and elegance of Syrah in one of its most expressive terroirs.

Country: France
Grapes: Syrah, Marsanne, Roussanne
Historic icon of the Cornas appellation Syrah-based wines with strong aging potential Traditional winemaking: whole-cluster fermentations and long ageing in foudres Family heritage: Auguste → Pierre-Marie → Olivier Vineyards on granitic, terraced soils, farmed predominantly by hand.
Winery history
Family-run for generations, the estate owes its reputation to Auguste Clape, who was among the first to bottle his own wine in Cornas. The family converted and replanted vineyards on the commune’s granite terraces; after Auguste’s generation, the estate was carried on by Pierre-Marie and by the next generation, Olivier.
Production philosophy
Traditional approach: hand harvesting, often whole-bunch fermentations with native yeasts, and extended aging in large, old foudres; limited cellar interventions to showcase the expression of the terroir and vineyard parcels.
Terroir and vineyards
Located in the heart of the Cornas appellation in the Ardèche department, on granitic ridges with terraced vineyards on steep slopes. The estate owns historic Cornas parcels and also holds vineyards destined for Saint-Péray.
