The 5-year-old Cossart Gordon Bual offers immediate and delicious access to the distinctive world of Madeira wines, expertly produced by Gordon and Blandy's. This version, younger and livelier, maintains the elegance and complexity that characterize quality Madeiras, making it an excellent choice for those who wish to explore the typicality of the Bual grape variety with less commitment to aging.

The aging process, although shorter than more mature versions, follows the traditional "canteiro" technique, which involves aging the wine in wooden barrels under the natural heat of the island. This method gives the wine a remarkable concentration of flavors and complexity, as well as a characteristic oxidation that enhances its unique aromatic notes.

Visually, the wine presents a light and bright amber color. On the nose, the 5-year-old Bual reveals intense aromas of dried fruit, such as raisins and figs, accents of honey, caramel and a subtle spicy note that adds depth. The influence of the wood is perceived with elegance, contributing to the overall profile without overpowering the freshness of the fruit.

In the mouth, the wine demonstrates a perfect balance between sweetness and acidity, with a pleasant freshness that makes the tasting lively and satisfying. The structure is medium, with a soft texture that envelops the palate and leads to a long and harmonious finish, where the flavors persist with elegance.

Ideal as an aperitif, the 5-year-aged Cossart Gordon Bual can also be an excellent companion for a variety of foods, from appetizers to desserts. It pairs beautifully with foie gras, mature cheeses and fruit-based desserts, offering a contrast of flavors that enhances both the wine and the dish.

This Madeira is also a great introduction to the category for those new to the island's wines, offering a taste of the tradition and quality of Gordon and Blandy's without requiring the time investment required for longer-aged wines. Its affordability and pleasantness make it a popular choice for festive occasions or as a gift appreciated by any wine enthusiast.

Winery history
Blandy’s is one of the historic names in Madeira production: the Blandy family has led the company for generations, and the label is recognised for preserving traditional ageing techniques and for operating the Blandy’s Wine Lodge in Funchal. Over the years the company has kept collections of vintage bottles and expanded its portfolio to include frasqueiras, colheitas and blends of different ages.
Production philosophy
It combines respect for traditional Madeira winemaking practices—ageing in the island’s characteristic rooms and casks—with initiatives in innovation and sustainability. The winery emphasises the varietal origins of its wines and the care taken in ageing to express the different styles of Madeira.
Terroir and vineyards
Operations are concentrated on the island of Madeira, with the winery and Blandy’s Wine Lodge in Funchal. Grapes are sourced from several areas of the island, including Seixal, Câmara de Lobos and Jardim da Serra, and the producer also uses cooler sites, such as Caniçal, for certain ageing.
