Cossart Gordon Malmsey is an enchanting expression of the Malvasia grape (known locally as Malmsey), representing the sweetest variety among the classic Madeira wines produced by Gordon and Blandy's. This historic winery, with a tradition spanning centuries, has honed the art of producing exceptional Madeiras, and Malmsey is the culmination of their craftsmanship, offering unrivaled richness and complexity.

Cossart Gordon's Malmsey is distinguished by its intensely sweet profile, balanced by a lively acidity that is characteristic of the best Madeira wines. The combination of sweetness and acidity creates an extraordinarily balanced and pleasant tasting experience, making this wine incredibly versatile both as an aperitif and as a meditation or dessert wine.

Visually, the wine presents itself with a rich amber color, deep and inviting. On the nose, it explodes with a complex bouquet of aromas of candied fruit, honey, nuts, and spicy notes reminiscent of cinnamon and clove, along with a hint of candied orange and coffee. This olfactory complexity anticipates the delights of the palate, promising a rich and enveloping tasting.

In the mouth, the Cossart Gordon Malmsey reveals its extraordinary richness with flavors that faithfully mirror the nose, adding layers of complexity with touches of dark chocolate, caramel and a light note of tobacco. The texture is luxuriously dense, but is balanced by a refreshing acidity that cleanses the palate and invites another sip, leaving a long, lingering finish that continues to evolve and enchant.

Perfect for finishing a meal in style, Cossart Gordon's Malmsey pairs beautifully with rich desserts such as chocolate cakes, crème caramel, or blue cheeses. It is also an ideal companion for solitary contemplation, allowing those who taste it to lose themselves in its complexity and in the warmth that only a Madeira of this quality can offer.

Ultimately, Cossart Gordon Malmsey is more than just a wine; is a sensory experience that captures the essence of Madeira's winemaking tradition, celebrating the unrivaled richness, complexity and beauty of this wonderful island.

Winery history
Blandy’s is one of the historic names in Madeira production: the Blandy family has led the company for generations, and the label is recognised for preserving traditional ageing techniques and for operating the Blandy’s Wine Lodge in Funchal. Over the years the company has kept collections of vintage bottles and expanded its portfolio to include frasqueiras, colheitas and blends of different ages.
Production philosophy
It combines respect for traditional Madeira winemaking practices—ageing in the island’s characteristic rooms and casks—with initiatives in innovation and sustainability. The winery emphasises the varietal origins of its wines and the care taken in ageing to express the different styles of Madeira.
Terroir and vineyards
Operations are concentrated on the island of Madeira, with the winery and Blandy’s Wine Lodge in Funchal. Grapes are sourced from several areas of the island, including Seixal, Câmara de Lobos and Jardim da Serra, and the producer also uses cooler sites, such as Caniçal, for certain ageing.
