Fifty Pounds Gin is produced in London by the renowned and ancient Thames Distillers company, which is over 200 years old. Although the British strongly claim the origins of Gin, it is said instead that it was born in Holland, in the mid-1600s, it was used by a doctor to try to cure some soldiers sick with fever. Soon the distillate proposed as a cure turned into a pleasure for the palate, becoming one of the most appreciated and drunk alcoholic beverages in the world, also contrasting the famous French cognac.
Fifty Ponds Gin comes from a base of a cereal brandy, distilled four times; the vegetable ingredients are macerated on this base for two days. The proceeds are then distilled a fifth time using an old still called John Doore (known as the Rolls Royce of stills).
After the fifth and final distillation, the liquid rests for at least 21 days before being bottled, this ensures that all the properties of the ingredients (herbs, spices, flowers, fruits and juniper berries from which the gin in addition to the name takes aroma and taste) make a whole for an excellent result.
In the glass its color is transparent, on the palate it is soft, with a good alignment between alcohol and botanicals, but above all it is extremely balanced, and slightly fragrant.
