This Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 1997 from Tenuta la Fuga (Folonari) presents itself as a matured example that deserves a careful approach. Visually it shows a garnet color with slight amber highlights, consistent with extended bottle evolution; the bottle, offered in a wooden case, reveals an evolved aromatic profile with scents of ripe fruit, earthy nuances, spicy hints and a character recalling the undergrowth. On the palate there is a smoothed tannic structure, balanced body and residual freshness that maintains liveliness; the finish is measured and invites a thoughtful tasting.

To best appreciate its subtleties, it is suggested to decant it gently and serve at a moderate temperature. It is advisable to check the condition of the bottle at the time of purchase, as wines of this age may show variations related to bottle evolution; opening in advance helps assess any deposits. Store away from temperature swings and humidity. Ideal for those seeking a matured Brunello to enjoy now, paired with characterful dishes such as braised meats, game stews or aged cheeses.

Winery history
The Folonari family has deep roots in the Brescia area and has been involved in wine production since the late 18th century. At the end of the 19th century the headquarters were moved to Brescia, and in the early 20th century the family acquired the historic Ruffino winery. In the 1960s Nino Folonari began a shift toward quality with the acquisition of estates in Chianti. In 2000 Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari established Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari Tenute, which brings together several estates in Tuscany, while the Folonari brand offers an extensive range of table wines and appellation wines.

Terroir and vineyards
Headquarters and estates are mainly in Tuscany, with production and a presence also in north-eastern regions such as Veneto and in areas like the Collio; the company’s history begins in the Bresciano and includes references to territories around Lake Garda and beyond.
