A winery in Montalcino (Siena) known for its Brunello di Montalcino DOCG; founded by the artist Sandro Chia and now guided by a project that brings together art and viticulture.
Region: Toscana
Country: Italia
Founded: 1984
Grapes: Sangiovese, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay
Founded and relaunched by the artist Sandro Chia. High-elevation Sangiovese vineyards with a focus on Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. They also produce Toscana IGT wines: a blend of Syrah and Petit Verdot and a Chardonnay-based white. An approach that combines art, research and meticulous attention to each individual vineyard.
Winery history
The estate takes its name from the ancient fortification on which it stands and was revitalized by Sandro Chia, who bought the property and began its restoration and the planting of the vineyards. Since 2006 his son Filippo Chia has led a new phase with the construction of a winery and the expansion of high-altitude Sangiovese vineyards, consolidating production in the Montalcino area.
Production philosophy
The estate's production approach combines attention to the terroir with winemaking practices aimed at showcasing Sangiovese: careful grape selection, controlled fermentations and aging in wood for the Brunello. The estate emphasizes a strong bond between wine and art, with meticulous care of each vineyard and the pursuit of the fullest expression of the terroir.
Terroir and vineyards
Located in Loc. Romitorio, in the territory of Montalcino, the estate cultivates vineyards on the hilly slopes of northwest Montalcino, with vines situated at approximately 200 to 400 meters in altitude. The area combines cool breezes with the Mediterranean influences typical of the region.
