San Clemente Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC Riserva represents the most intense expression of the Montepulciano grape in the Zaccagnini range. Produced in Abruzzo, it has a deep red colour with violet reflections. The nose develops a broad and layered aromatic profile, combining rose and blueberry jam with spicy notes of white pepper, cumin and liquorice, followed by mineral nuances reminiscent of graphite. On the palate, it is imposing and full-bodied, with dense, lively tannins supported by vibrant freshness. The wine has an alcohol content of 14.5% vol.
The grapes are usually hand-harvested during the second ten days of October. They come from medium-textured, clay-leaning soils with southern exposure. After destemming, fermentation lasts 15-20 days in 50-hectolitre oak vats at 28-30 °C. The wine then matures for 18 months, including 9 months in barriques. This ageing period enhances its structure, depth and spicy character. Serve at 16-18 °C in a balloon glass. It is a natural match for pasta with rich ragù, mushroom risotto, game dishes and substantial red meats. The 0.75-litre bottle is suited to special meals and occasions that call for a structured Abruzzo red.
