Clematis is a red passito produced by Cantina Zaccagnini in the hills of the Pescara area of Abruzzo. Made from Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grapes, it comes from vineyards planted on medium-textured clay soils and is generally harvested late. The name pays tribute to the colourful flowers of the clematis plant, known for its resilience and longevity. These qualities reflect the wine’s ability to develop over time.
The grapes are allowed to wither on the vine before being hand harvested, softly pressed and fermented with 20 days of maceration at a controlled temperature. The wine matures in small 50-litre casks until bottling. Thanks to its acidity and tannic structure, it can age in bottle for more than 15 years. It shows an intense red colour and an elegant, austere nose with hints of black fruit under spirits and liquorice. The palate is broad, harmonious and exceptionally persistent. Clematis is suited to the end of a meal, paired with chocolate and cocoa-based desserts. Serve at 14-16 °C. Alcohol content: 13% vol.; available format: 0.375 l.
