Gianni Doglia offers an exceptional example of the Nizza DOCG designation with his "Viti Vecchie," a red wine that is deeply rooted in Piedmontese traditions, specifically in the fertile hills of Asti. This wine is produced exclusively with Barbera grapes, carefully selected from old vines that impart a uniquely intense concentration of flavors and aromas.

The "Viti Vecchie" presents a deep and vibrant ruby red color, an invitation to discover the olfactory complexity it offers. On the nose, notes of ripe red fruits like sour cherries and plums emerge, enriched by nuances of spices, including black pepper and vanilla, due to aging in French oak barriques.

On the palate, the wine shows a full and robust body, maintaining a balanced acidity that is typical of the Barbera variety. The tannins are enveloping and well-structured, promising excellent aging potential. The finish is lingering, with an aftertaste that recalls the aromas perceived by the nose, enriched by a slight touch of dark chocolate.

Ideal for pairing with red meat dishes, game, or aged cheeses, the Nizza DOCG - Viti Vecchie by Gianni Doglia is a wine that celebrates the historicity of the Piedmontese terroir, showing how tradition and modernity can merge to create a memorable tasting experience. Each sip is a journey into the depths of Barbera, exploring the richness and variety that this territory can offer.

Winery history
The family story begins with Eugenio Rivella, who in 1947 purchased land in the Annunziata hamlet of Castagnole delle Lanze to produce wine from his own grapes. Over the years management passed to the next generation and, from the late 1990s/early 2000s, to their son Gianni, an oenologist trained in enology and viticulture who has led the estate through its growth. From 2000 Gianni took direct charge of the estate, and in 2001 he vinified Moscato d'Asti from the family vineyards for the first time. In 2013 his sister Paola joined the business full-time. In 2022 Gianni was selected by Gambero Rosso as Winemaker of the Year.
