The Ortrugo Frizzante Spago DOC from Il Poggiarello represents an intriguing example of Emilian viticulture, specifically from Val Trebbia, a region that endows this native grape variety with unique characteristics. Typically grown on the hills of Piacenza, Ortrugo is distinguished by its fresh liveliness and sparkling expression.

The vinification of the Ortrugo Spago is carried out using the long Charmat method to ensure a gentle effervescence, enhancing the natural aromatic characteristics of the grape. This process gives the wine those fine, persistent bubbles that dance in the glass with an elegant and inviting perlage.

Visually, it presents a straw yellow color with greenish reflections, typical of the freshness and youthfulness of the wine. On the nose, Ortrugo Spago offers an aromatic bouquet highlighted by notes of white fruit, such as pear and green apple, enriched by floral nuances and a slight herbaceous background.

On the palate, the liveliness of its bubbles harmoniously matches a light body and pleasant acidity. Its balanced structure makes it particularly suitable as an aperitif, but also a versatile pairing with light dishes, seafood starters, and fresh cheeses.

Thus, Il Poggiarello's Ortrugo Frizzante Spago DOC is an excellent choice for lovers of sparkling wines who are looking for a product with a unique character and refreshingly pleasant approach. The connection with the land of origin and the care in production make it an authentic testament to the winemaking art of Val Trebbia.

Winery history
The Il Poggiarello project began as a venture by the Ferrari and Perini families, whose shared history dates back to 1882. In the 1980s the family acquired about 20 hectares in Val Trebbia and launched the Il Poggiarello range to showcase the area's typical grape varieties, remaining family-run to this day and maintaining a strong link with Piacenza's winemaking culture.
Production philosophy
Four words guide the winery's approach: terroir, uniqueness, simplicity and ambition. The winery places great emphasis on the vineyard as the source of its wines, promoting biodiversity and environmentally friendly practices; the grapes are certified organic and interventions in the cellar are kept to a minimum to preserve their expressiveness.
Terroir and vineyards
The hills and valleys surrounding the Trebbia River, with views over the city of Piacenza and the surrounding plains: a context of limestone hills and favourable exposures that defines the style of Il Poggiarello's wines.
Awards and recognitions
Individual wines from Il Poggiarello have received recognition: for example, 'Lo Straniero' has received scores from specialist guides, while 'Il Valandrea' and 'La Barbona' appear in rankings and have won medals, as reported on the product pages.
